The wheel

The wheel

The wheel has been an essential part of human life from the very early years of human civilization. The wheel can be best described as a circular object that rotates on an axial bearing.  The earliest wheels were known to be wooden disks with a hole in the middle for the axle.  The word wheel first came from an Old English word.  In Sanskrit, the wheel is called chakra to mean round or circle.  It is believed that the wheel first originated around 3500 BC in Mesopotamia (part of modern-day Iraq) where it was used for chariots.  Some argue that it was invented by the Mesopotamians, the Northern Caucasus and Central Europeans.  Therefore, the issue of where the wheel originated in still remains a mystery.

Non-Verbal Communication

Non-Verbal Communication

All of us communicate non-verbally as well as verbally.  If irritated, we may tense our bodies, press our lips together, and gesture with our eyebrows. With a gaze, a glance or stare we can communicate intimacy, submission, or dominance.
Most of us are good at"reading" non-verbal cues to understand the emotions in an old silent film. We are especially good at detecting non verbal threats. In a crowd of faces, a single angry face will "pop out" faster than a single happy one.  Some of us are more sensitive to these cues than others.

Internet: a boon or a bane?

Internet:  a boon or a bane?

With the advent of the Internet, life has been made easier with quick access to information and the number of tasks that can be performed online.  But is it only convenient or are there any negative effects associated with its use?
Undoubtedly, the Internet has many positive effects as internet search engines have advanced to provide quick information retrieval systems providing access to any kind of information for internet users within a very short time.
In addition it has paved the way for some of the most effective means of the communication among people, including email chat and Skype.  It has also enabled businessmen to do online transactions with their clients and customers without meeting them.

E mail

E mail

Electronic mail, e-mail was started in the late 1960's by the armed forces of the United States of America. The army or military officers were looking for a way that communication could be carried out in the even of a large-scale nuclear war.  They needed a system that would be very decentrazed, reliable, and fast in case central institution were destroyed. They came up with e-mail.

There are many famous people in this world.  People can be famous for many reasons.  First,  a person can excel in one area and become famous.  Also he/she can invent something and become famous however there are some practical people arround us who show us that we can do many things.  Moreover they prove us that one can become successful not only in one area but also in many different fields.  Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin or commonly known as"Charlie" was an English actor,  comedian and filmmaker who became world famous,  has proved this very fact.

Once, the great sages of India held an assembly to discuss religious and philosophical matters.  The following question was raised in this assembly: “Of the three predominating gods Brahma, Siva and Vishnu, who was the greatest and most worthy of worship?" They went on discussing this for a long time and yet could not reach a conclusion.

How We Got Here: DNA Points to a Single Migration From Africa

How We Got Here: DNA Points to a Single Migration From Africa

Modern humans evolved in Africa roughly 200,000 years ago. But how did our species go on to populate the rest of the globe?
The question, one of the biggest in studies of human evolution, has intrigued scientists for decades. In a series of extraordinary genetic analyses published on Wednesday, researchers believe they have found an answer.
In the journal Nature, three separate teams of geneticists survey DNA collected from cultures around the globe, many for the first time, and conclude that all non-Africans today trace their ancestry to a single population emerging from Africa between 50,000 and 80,000 years ago.
“I think all three studies are basically saying the same thing,” said Joshua M. Akey of the University of Washington, who wrote a commentaryaccompanying the new work. “We know there were multiple dispersals out of Africa, but we can trace our ancestry back to a single one.”
The three teams sequenced the genomes of 787 people, obtaining highly detailed scans of each. The genomes were drawn from people in hundreds of indigenous populations: Basques, African pygmies, Mayans, Bedouins, Sherpas and Cree Indians, to name just a few.
The DNA of indigenous populations is essential to understanding human history, many geneticists believe. Yet until now scientists have sequenced entire genomes from very few people outside population centers like Europe and China.
The new data already are altering scientific understanding of what human DNA looks like, experts said, adding rich variations to our map of the genome.
Each team of researchers tackled different questions about our origins, such as how people spread across Africa and how others populated Australia. But all aimed to settle the controversial question of human expansion from Africa.
In the 1980s, a group of paleoanthropologists and geneticists began championing a hypothesis that modern humans emerged only once from Africa, roughly 50,000 years ago. Skeletons and tools discovered at archaeological sites clearly indicated that modern humans lived after that time in Europe, Asia and Australia.
